National Engineers Week Future City Competition – Ohio Region

Thanks for your interest in volunteering for an innovative, hands-on program for seventh and eight graders! The Competition offers students a fun way to learn about engineering and cities of the future. Through the program, students will:

  • Design a city of the future using Maxis SimCity 4 Deluxe(TM) software.
  • Build a working model of a portion of their city using recycled products.
  • Write an essay about city planning and design issues.
  • Verbally present their city to a panel of judges from the engineering, planning, and architectural communities.

Volunteer Information:

I am willing to be a judge. Check which area(s) you are interested in below:
Computer city design, approx. commitment: 3-9 hours, January, in Westerville, Ohio
Essay and Abstract, approx. commitment: 5 hours, December-January, in your own home or office
Models and Presentations, approx. commitment: 5 hours, January, COSI Columbus

I will be available during the day of the competition in January and am willing do what ever task is needed.

I am interested in working with the young people and the teacher coach as a mentor.
Approximate commitment: 40 hours, September-January .

I am interested in joining the team of educators and business professionals from various fields who make up the steering committee. The group is energetic, dedicated, and fun-loving while keeping the focus on the young participants.
Meetings are held once a month, twice in January.
