How to Volunteer
There are many opportunities to become involved with the student teams and
the competition. Simply complete and submit a Volunteer Form via the link on
the top of the page.
Volunteers can be:
- Engineer mentors: The engineer is involved
in all phases of the competition as an advisor and provides input and
technical assistance, integrating real-life engineering experiences as the
students work on the competition. The students must do all of the actual
work, such as the computer design of the city, building the tabletop
model, writing the essay and presenting the project with support from the
engineer. Approximate commitment: 40 hours, September-January
Engineers
are defined as:
Ø
Those
working in the engineering field,
Ø
Those
holding an engineering degree but not currently working in the engineering
field,
Ø
Those
working in the engineering field without a formal engineering degree, and
Ø
Those
studying engineering at a college or university.
- Judges: Qualified judges will evaluate all student
submissions.
- Computer city design,
approx. commitment: 3-9 hours, December-January, at Westerville City Schools, Ohio
- Essay and Abstract,
approx. commitment: 5 hours, January, in your own home or office
- Models and Presentations,
approx. commitment: 5 hours, January, COSI Columbus
- Competition coordinating committee: The regional competition
coordinating committee requires volunteers in a variety of areas. All
individuals, both technical and non-technical, are welcome to participate
on the committee.
- Regional finals support: Volunteers are needed to
assist with all aspects of the regional finals including team welcome,
check-in, awards, and other logistical requirements of the event.
